This has reference to the editorial (it's rich to be poor, The Pundit, February 11) Jharkhand is a rich state that has mines, thriving natural resources and minerals. But it is rich in corruption too. Every minister of this State has been notorious for having criminal records of various kinds. So the state's decision to raise the poverty limit to people earning Rs.10,000 per month may prompt other states to revise the limit. Every citizen needs state protection and subsidies while paying taxes. There should not be any discrimination among states on fixing a poverty limit. The centre should formulate a policy keeping in mind the cost of living and ongoing inflation.
