Red tapism at its best

Mail Today deserves praise for highlighting how red tape makes homecoming of national treasure difficult ('Babus spoil Mallya's Bapu party' March 14). The government's approach is baffling as it should have voluntarily relaxed the bureaucrative procedures and exempted industrialist Vijay Mallya from paying import duty.
After reading this story, one can only suggest that Mallya should himself pay the import duty, as he is capable of doing it and should keep these items in his personal collection - instead of donating it to a government owned museum.
