A major cause of rising pollution levels in Delhi is due to poor public transport system ("Delhi is India's asthma capital, March 1). Initially Delhi Metro service brought cheers and hope, but nowadays it only gives nightmarish experience with its overcrowded compartments that have become a paradise for pickpockets.
The irrationally connected city bus services further aggravates the problem and therefore, private vehicles become a necessity. I think the solution lies in rationalising bus routes in relation to Metro stations.
